thesis timeline
inspired by the blog of the experimentalists in my group (it's impressive, but unfortunately not web accessible w/o a password), i'm going to track how much i get done in my own blog.
today's accomplishment? writing a new, more realistic, timeline, since i've missed pretty much all of my previous self-imposed deadlines.
status
- chap 1. introduction: not started, but it'll be short.
- chap 2. resources in quantum shannon theory: this will come from the long version of the family paper (q-ph/0308044), which now needs only minor revisions.
- chap 3. communication using unitary gates (based on q-ph/0205057 and unpublished work): a first draft of this is done
- chap 4. coherent classical communication (based on q-ph/0307091 and q-ph/0412126): a first draft of this is done too you can read chaps 3-4 if you want at http://jafar.media.mit.edu/aram/thesis.pdf
- chap 5. a family of quantum protocols: this will come from the second half of the family paper - as a paper it is mostly done, but i still need to integrate it into the thesis.
- chap 6 - schur duality in quantum information theory - this will be mostly review, but i will put in some material from these notes: http://jafar.media.mit.edu/aram/schur-qrst.ps specifically, i think i'll use all the review material from those notes, and talk more about the relationship between i.i.d. quantum channels and the S_n clebsch-gordan transform, though i probably won't do the application to the reverse shannon theorem.
- chap 7 - efficient quantum circuits for the schur transform - i am writing the paper version now - right now it's half typed and half notes on paper.
- chap 8 - connections between the schur transform and the quantum fourier transform on S_n - notes at http://jafar.media.mit.edu/aram/new-cg.ps
timeline
- may 1: finish writing paper version of chap 7 (efficient circuits for the schur transform).
- may 8: finish the long version of the family paper
- may 15: do a first draft of chapters 2-5
- may 22: do a first draft of chaps 6-8
- june 7: finish a first draft of everything
- june 21: defend
